Believe it or not, I am a person who gets bored pretty quickly. No matter what, I can’t figure out why? I can be watching one of my favorite programs and just start to drift away.

It is a serious problem to me. If it is a serious problem for me, it may be for others. I want this post to be a model for us to overcome this issue. I keep telling myself, this will be the day I get rid of this brain fog that I didn’t invite. I am going to stick to this no matter what. How?

One day, I got that light bulb moment to do what I love most, create a plan. That is to fill my idle time with my passions. If I get that bored feeling, get to work on one of my passions. Also, explore things I am not familiar with. This has been working big time and notice boredom has become less! 

Maybe analyzing country lyrics might have a girl at Windsor getting a cowboy hat. I love to learn different things, that is how you can grow in life. It doesn’t hurt to explore. If it happens not to be your cup of tea, can politely move on. Atleast you tried.  I always leave with a positive perspective. What are the positives that I see with this subject/genre.  My inner marketing comes and start analyzing everything. It is a great way to spark creativity and inspiration, see the beauty in things. I also analyze what I see as negatives and why. Perhaps it’s a matter of cultural difference and clash with personality. 

Have you ever come to a place in your day where you just feel blah?  You are just sitting idle, not having the energy to do anything. Even the things you love most feel not interesting. It is called being human. It is easy to hit the fridge and down everything in sight or turn over for a nap. I want to prevent you from going down this road. Primarily the fridge, I will never slander a nap, LoL. Unnecessary pounds on waist and a higher food expense aren’t something you need in your life. 

This is just an example that helps the time to go by. Let’s get into some ideas that will leave you feeling happy and refreshed. It is time to get rid of boredom. Now, before you ask. Yes, these are activities you can do by yourself. If you want someone to tag along, feel free. Let’s dive right in. 

Create Fun Challenges

A challenge can be your best friend. Why? The reward that you completed or accomplished something. It may not be your best but atleast put forth the effort. I highly recommend jotting down a list of challenges in every area of your life. It doesn’t have to be a major. Then set your reward. It can be a nice night out, treat to a favorite sports outing or a simple mental high five. More articles with challenges will be on the way so brace yourself.  Here are some ideas to try today. 

Graphic Design Challenges

Enter Contests

Conduct a Google or social media search for graphic design contests. Just be aware of the entry dates. Great way to boost your esteem as an award recipient. Keep it fun. Just think, with each design, you’re getting better with your skills. Adobe Photoshop usually holds periodic contests. Make sure your push notifications are turned on your Creative Cloud account. Also, follow them on social media and look out for emails. 

Recreate An Inspiration For A Month

Each week, you would pick a different inspiration to recreate in your own style. Fire up Photoshop and creating a composite would be ideal. Let’s blend the statue of David with Toucan Sam is sick! Watch your portfolio grow and see how boredom takes an exit left.

Create One Graphic Per Week 

Time frame challenges are personal favorites of mind. Why? They are undercover goals to me. It helps me to stay on track and accountable for myself. If time isn’t a factor, you can do a 30 day challenge where you create a graphic everyday. Let’s boost our skills for 2025. 

Create A Different Graphic For Seven Days 

For instance, your plan entails, creating an ad on Monday. A business card on Tuesday. A wedding invite on Wednesday. A conference flyer on Thursday. A book cover on Friday. An infographic on Saturday. A social media graphic on Sunday. The goal is for you to have a range of experience in creating graphics. Also, a great way to have an exciting portfolio to show the world. Let’s take on this challenge. 

Learn A New Skill 

What a better boost to your self-esteem than picking up a new skill. Let’s boost your resume this year with new skills. Learning is fun. Why? You will be helping someone. Isn’t this what life is all about? You’re not in it for yourself.  Create a safety net for yourself in your career. Employers are looking for individuals with transferable skills.  I want you to stand out both professionally and personally. Picking up a new skill will put you on a path to having an amazing career.

Neon Colors Challenges

The 80’s are calling with this challenge. Pick some neon colors and see how they work in your design. You can set a specific limit 1-to all, it’s up to you. It’s a fun challenge. Retro and futuristic at the same time. There is nothing like brightness in a design. 

B&W Challenge

Having a rustic feel to your designs is a game changer. As you may notice, many designs use this as a theme. Play around with this color scheme and see how it elevates your design. Play with textures and backdrops, the world is yours to explore.

Two Or Three Color Challenges

Create a design only sticking to these amounts. What better way to play around with directions, textures and patterns. Great way to closely observe your colors and how they look best. This gets into next challenges. 

Colors That Aren’t Your Particular Taste Challenge

Create a design using colors that aren’t your particular taste. Can observe why they aren’t. Try to see the positives and beauty of them. Spin it around and add a dash of humor. 

Observe Color Challenge 

Make a list of random colors. Then, observe these colors. After observation, immediately jot down the first word that comes into your mind. For example, blue, the word calm comes into my mind. In a future article, will talk more about color psychology. 

Create A Fun Essay Or Poem Challenge 

You can also do an essay or poem about your favorite color. Turn it into a blog article and get a conversation going. Look at your creative juices going to town! 

Why It’s Your Favorite Color

Answer the following questions. Why is it your favorite? How long has it been your favorite?  Will this color ever stop being your favorite? Where is the last time you seen this color?  Why do you think this color is better than others?  Where does this color really stand out? Where is this color in nature? What brands use this color?  All questions to get those neurons flowing.

Movie challenges

This is always a fun one and can get a discussion going like no other. Movies have been part of our history since forever, you always have something to reflect upon. Some ideas. 

List Your Favorite Scenes Challenge

With challenges, I usually include a benchmark. For example, try to list your favorites in one hour. You can also do genres. Top comic or action movies scenes. If you want to be more specific. Buddy cop or lawyer scenes. Just be specific with each scene. Analyze what sticks out about these scenes.

Always a laugh when you start to think of different options. If you have seen Coming to America, there is a scene where Eddie Murphy’s character is cutting Cuba Gooding Jr. ‘s hair with cutting shears at a barber shop. The pure genius, he’s cutting his hair from about 10 feet above his hair. It’s pure hilarity and shows the art of closely paying attention to everything in his movies.  An added bonus. Arsenio Hall’s character is so engulfed in what he’s eating. That he accidentally tries to put chicken bones in a donation plate. “I thought it was the trash”, will never get old. At the same, he is also playing an outlandish preacher promoting the neighborhood food joint. If you have never seen Coming to America, please give it a watch. Pay attention to everything.  If you’ve seen Trading Places, you will recognize a connection, LoL. Talk about crafty. This movie will never get old.

Another scene is Tom Hanks going to town on the giant piano in Big. If you’ve ever been Schwartz in NYC, you have seen the big daddy in person. I pestered my grandmother the whole time in Schwartz, I didn’t want to leave. LoL. I am sad they shut down. Talk about a kid’s playground that you never knew you needed. Grown folks too. I wish everyone could experience a trip at Schwartz. Talk about life!

Changing The Actor In A Movie Challenge

We all have had this thought, such and such would be perfect in this role. With superhero films, this is always a debate. Create a list of movies then, think of specific characters. Afterwards, jot down who you picture playing them. Robin Williams as Indiana Jones, how can you not? The charisma all over the screen. Now, don’t get me wrong. Harrison Ford is the goat and has undeniable charisma as well.  It just would be fun seeing Robin in the role.

List Of Famous One Liners Challenge

This is always an interesting one because it plays into psychology. You may not have ever seen the movie, but you know a line in it. Examples. “I will be back” Terminator. “Say hello to my little friend”, Scarface. “Adrienne”, Rocky. “Shaken, not stirred” 007 Casino Royale. All part of our cinematic history. Examine why you think these lines are catchy.

On a separate note, you can create a list one liners for specific movies or scenes. Get creative, let the inner Spielberg come out!

List Of Movie Trailers That Made You Stop In Your Tracks Challenge

The sudden sound of a boom, a raspy voice saying, “coming this fall.”  All got your attention.  Some trailers stop you in your tracks, wanting to learn more. Essentially, posing a story. Perfect example of this is Cloverfield. The makers of the film invited the audience to go on their website to learn more about this mysterious “monster.” They left cryptic messages and hints on this “monster” that just raise terror on an innocent city. They invite the audience to guess and give their thoughts on what this monster could be. They do a masterful job of hiding any visual details of this “monster” throughout the whole movie. Essentially, leaving you wanting more. This got movie goers talking. This is just an example.

Analyzing trailers is a good brain exercise. Trailers always bring a range of excitement. Sometimes, they’re better than the movies. You have such a short time frame to tell your story that will leave your audience hooked. Create a list and analyze, watch the excitement rise. 

List Of Funny Scenes In A Movies Challenge

Prestige, the art of the chase, all make up a classic with the Ocean’s 11 series. Nothing is more hilarious than Brad Pitt’s appetite throughout the movie. Almost all his scenes feature him eating. It’s pure hilarity and genius at the same time. It’s the little things in movies that bring it out. How about Tom Hanks fighting with his co-worker, playing tennis in Big.

List Of Actors Playing Alternative Characters In Movies Challenge

The mental prep of being someone else, the hours of makeup, the wardrobe, all make up the perfect alternative character. These characters are the highlights of movies and shows the depth of talent. 

Tyler Perry as Madea, playing light homage to his pistol packing aunt. Martin Lawrence playing Big Momma, an undercover agent.  Eddie Murphy as Buddy Love, a quirky chemist in “Dr.Dolittle.” Just a few examples of movie magic. When you create your list, examine what sticks out about these characters. Do they remind you of someone? It’s fun to analyze characters and what they bring to the screen.

List Of Movies With Animals As A Theme Challenge

Nothing gives a movie life more than animals. It’s even better when they act as sidekicks. 

An all-time classic is Pee Wee Herman. Paul Reuben’s plays a fun-loving nerd with an adoration for pets. Besides the creative breakfast contraption, seeing how he rescued a whole pet store is pure genius. Nothing beats Paul running out of the pet store screaming with snakes in both hands before he collapses. How about large Marge stories in the truck. Classic movie for the ages. Ace Ventura pet detective, Jumanji, Deuce Bigalow, Turner & Hooch, and Dr. Doolittle give the animal kingdom a run for its money. Humans and animals, a pairing that is golden.

Mickey and friends rule our world. The domination of Disney and Marvel is something to behold. This company has our grown behinds planted in seats, singing along to amazing tunes. The interaction between Scar and Mufasa, how can you not forget this heart wrenching scene in Lion King. Sebastian in Little Mermaid, enough said. Looney Tunes is right behind. It’s great to take a break from the norm and engage in animated movies. The stories, the songs, the interactions, all take you away from your problems. We can all identify with these characters. Also, you never know if you will get inspiration for your next Halloween costume.

Favorite Cameos In Movies Challenge

“No one put Billy in the corner.” Seeing a burly man defending his favorite on a plane is a treasure moment in Wedding Singer. A hands on classic. Billy Idol brought style, edge with a dash of humor to the movie. How dare you squish Billy in a corner, what an interesting flight indeed. I often reflect on how much fun they must have had on set. If you haven’t seen this movie, please add it to your favorites! Dan Marino in Ace Ventura, ok Dolphins fans. Having a surprise cameo can bring life to your movies.

List Of Games Made Into Movies Challenge

If you’re a gamer, you know story is a major draw for keeping your hands on the controller. 

007 James Bond, Resident Evil, Silent Hill have all made their way on the big screens. We don’t get into the Mario movie made in the 80’s. We will move on. The best aspect, comparing the movies with the game. Sometimes a crazy debate occurs where you want to put someone in a chokehold. Never get to this point. This holds true for me with Resident Evil, LoL. Can we please get a Legend of Zelda movie going for 2025? Jensen Ackles as Link. Come on, this game features Epona. How can this not happen. Can already picture the running mailman.

We all have been there. Scrolling through Netflix and Hulu thinking, this might be an interesting one. Put together a list and with each movie, jot down a few reasons why you want to watch. This helps formulate your personality and your movie preferences. You will also have an organized list to go if boredom rears its ugly head, put on a movie from this list.

You don’t have to examine them, just simply grade them. It’s a fun exercise and helps shape your movie preference. A reviewer indeed!

As a movie buff, I adore this challenge. It can be linking together actors in a chain. For example, Will start the link with Samuel Jackson. Will link Samuel Jackson co-starring with Chris Evans in Avengers. The next link will connect Chris Evans to Octavia Spencer in SnowPiercer. Will link Octavia Spencer co-starring with Jessica Chastain in the Help. Then go from there. This was just an example. You can do similar movie titles, objects, or scenes.

This is always a fun reflection because there are always a few, what was I thinking. Not a negative it’s just as you get older, your preferences tend to change. Examine if these movies are still meaningful to you.

What is a movie without the hit tracks? Sometimes the songs have you in the theaters over the trailers. Who can forget Whitney belting out in the snow while sitting in a chair. They’re integral in movies and keep the flow so seemingly. 8 mile, Step Up, Black Panther, all soundtracks for the memories. The perfect score tells the story masterfully, what an art.

The classic movie portrayals have yet to fail us. So much history and drama behind your favorite entertainers. Beyonce as Etta James in Cadillac Records. Brought life to the sass and strong nature of James. “Can I get a bottle of gin.”  LaBamba, Ray, Jackie Robinson story, Ali, What’s love got do with it, Walk the Line, can go on and on. One entertainer that I am dying to see is Rick James. Talk about interesting. I know there is a story to tell.

The perfect person who comes to mind is Will Smith. Who knew a goofy kid from Philly who can rap would grow into an A-list icon. Will is crazy talented as a comedian but I am blown away by his serious side of acting.

You can do the reverse as well. List of actors who transition to musicians. Little did you know, Idris Elba is a mean DJ. Look him up on YouTube. The crossover appeal leaves these entertainers booked and busy. Jared Leto has a nice band going on. Amazing actor and musician, a duo. It’s good to have a musician on hand. Add a little flavor to the movie and don’t forget the soundtrack!

From behind the camera to the west wing. We already know abour Ronald Reagan’s legacy. Who in this class can follow up. Many of your favorite celebrities are quite charismatic, compassionate and truly for the people. I don’t what happen with Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s advocacy but he can run this country. Any WWE fan or for the earlier fans, WWF, knows the Rock can talk. He is by far one of the most charismatic personalities to hit our screens. It’s no surprise to see his rise to the big screen. He has a just as talented cousin tearing it up in the WWE. Roman Reigns would be great as Vice President or President himself. Locker room leader, natural charisma, humanitarian, compassionate, strong business and college football background, how can you not vouch. Seeing the Rock and Roman tearing it up on a big screen just ooze charisma. The whole Johnson and Anoai family in west wing please.

List Of Underrated Movies People Should Watch Challenge

There are always movies that we believe should be put on a better spotlight. It could be lack of promotion or in certain countries, not available. It doesn’t hurt to voice your opinion about these movies. I automatically think of “If looks could kill.” It’s a hilarious 80’s spoof that loosely references the 007 James Bond series. It stars Richard Grieco as the popular charismatic high school jock. He is misidentified as a CIA agent with the same name. Having two Michael Corbin’s on the same flight, small world. “Michael Corbin” is the theme of the movie and follows him on his class trip to Paris. From start to finish, this movie delivers on humor. I love funny puns plus; I am a sucker for the 007 games. This is right up my alley. Just my little pitch for a movie recommendation. 

If They Weren’t Acting, What Job They Would Be Perfect At Challenge

With natural charisma and wit, I always believe Danny Devito would make a great salesperson. Who doesn’t love this man? Robert Downey Jr. as a CEO, you bet. His natural charisma and leadership skill both on and off set is admirable.  She plays her part so well on Scandal that I would adore Kerry Washington being a journalist. Let me slide in Tony Goldwyn as President, how can we get a campaign going? Have fun with this exercise. Can tag these celebs on social media with your choices. Let them know. Get others on the conversation.

The running joke with Samuel Jackson, there isn’t a movie you haven’t been in. Often wonder, how does he have time to memorize all these lines. A favorite. It’s amazing to follow his journey. Not enough paper for his resume. See how many you can list.

My grandmother would always go on about the Barrymore family. When it dawned on me that Drew Barrymore was a part of this, my jaw dropped. I admire moments like this. I had a fun generational discussion with my grandmother. I got to learn more about the Barrymore’s and she got to know Drew. 

When talent runs in the family is the theme. It’s better when you didn’t realize they were related. Ben and Casey Afflek, Eddie and Charlie Murphy, Joey and Matthew Lawrence, Arquette family or Jake and Maggie Gyllenhol. Hollywood is full of families. I know their family dinners are quite interesting. 

Can even do famous twins. Tia & Tamera,Sprause twins and Olsen twins instantly come to mind. Having your sister playing in Avengers, not bad. Playing Scarlet Witch, one of my all time favorite comic characters, thanks for the homage.

Can I not start off with Prince sitting on a bike with the iconic ruffle shirt for Purple Rain. Talk about icon.  Jodeci with the hooded jackets and Nsync with puppet strings and pose for No Strings Attached. To get eyeballs on the albums, musicians have use all types of tactics for creative covers. It’s also a testament of their personality. Often, as the case with Nsync, there is a story behind the cover. Interesting. When you do an analysis, its amazing what you can discover.

Michael Jackson dominates this list. The gloves. The red leather jacket. The hat. Essentially, all his wardrobe. You either have the Eddie Murphy or Michael Jackson jacket lol.  Can’t leave out Bubbles. How can you not adore. Elvis with the iconic hair swoop, one piece and bell bottoms. Viva Las Vegas. Stevie, the braids, the piano, turn the volume up please. Toni Braxton for the chic haircut that dominated the salons. Rihanna brought back the cut in the 2000’s. Prince with the renaissance era fits and bang over the eye.  He had the new generation killing it on the soundboard in scrubs. Kriss Kross with backward pants. It’s a great marketing lesson to see how these artists took center stage to stand out, rising in notoriety.

Nothing beats getting out and listening to your favs putting on a show. Seeing them live, in the flesh, it’s a surreal experience. You will have plenty to discuss afterwards. Plus a lasting memory you will never forget. 

Sade is on my bucket list to see live in person. If anything in life, I have to make this happen. Have you heard her albums, enough said.

Music festivals are also a great way to kick up the mood. You might run into undiscovered talent who can be your next fave. Also make lasting connections.  Live a little and experience life.

From the microphone to the camera, these musicians took their craft to the big screen. How can you not forget Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz in Precious. Where is a song with these two. Janet Jackson and Jill Scott, musical powerhouses in Why did I get married. Musicians weren’t playing. Great marketing ploy to bring fans of these musicians to the big screen.

Create A Song Challenge

Put your writing skills to use and create a song. It can be funny, serious, romantic, rebellious, you name it. It can be a combination of them all. Tag one 

of your favorite artists and ask for a review. You never know if you will get a response. Tag your network as well, ask their thoughts. Ask them to participate. 

Get Involved In Tiktok Challenge

If you’re on Tiktok, you know it’s a platform centered around music. Some of the  challenges include lip singing, karaoke and dance challenges. Start a challenge of your own. If you’re looking to get out of your comfort zone, give these challenges a try. Head over to the trend section. Fire up a video. Create connections and engage.  Can also put on Instagram as well. 

Conclusion

Gave you enough to keep you busy and entertained. Let’s get rid of this issue in 2025. Let’s have fun. Set limits and aim high. As always, you can change and mix things up. Create your own challenges. The purpose is to help you on your life journey. You were created for a reason, to share your talents with the world. Each person is unique, you are valued. If no one has told you this, I am right now. I want you to live your life with a unique passion. Get out and explore.  If you’re an introvert, like myself, do your exploring from the comforts of your keyboard. Take your time and little by little, open yourself to being more social. 

Not expecting to be an extrovert, not our personality. I do want you to have a strong foundation for open communication when you’re working. It’s vital to be comfortable interacting with clients, co-workers or superiors. You can have your personal space but you should also have the right communication skills that will advance your career. It’s all about balance. It’s easy for us to get in our comfort zone and shut ourselves up.  You don’t have to know their personal lives. You don’t have to interact all the time. Just set the right balance. It’s all about teamwork.
