Your car. It’s used to get you to point A and B which usually includes work, school, grocery store and recreational activities. It’s your baby and in certain circumstances, an extension of your personality. Have you ever heard the roar of a Ford Mustang or the silence of a Toyota Echo. It’s all you.
Before I get into my ramble, let’s make into an impromptu lesson about car marketing. Throughout my marketing career, I have had nothing but tons of marketing papers about cars. It’s one of my favorite topics to cover and has played a part in my purchase of my beloved Toyota! A treasure because drumroll….. It was my graduation present!
I will never forget the day my grandmother told me to get my butt up, it’s time to pick out your car. You know what you want. I sure did! I had my mind set on Toyota for years. I am a girl with a plan. That day, I rolled home with a Toyota, talk about moves! The joys of being a spoiled grandchild. Best believe, with or without the car, I spoil my grandparents. They are the best and a plus, they are blessed with the most amazing personalities ever. Never a dull day with these two, lol. They have laid a foundation for me that I can’t thank enough. It’s only fair to return the favor and spoil them. Especially with good grades and their favorites (Klondikes and Fig Newtons, bare freezers and cabinets). I really didn’t deserve this as a graduation present. and believe me, I take care of this car more than ever. This is the most I can do and out of respect for them. I can’t thank my grandparents enough, I don’t know what I would do without them.
My grandfather taught me how to drive and take care of a car. It doesn’t hurt that he had a strong background as an auto mechanic. If you know me and know my grandfather, he had to have considerable patience. I am the fun loving goofball while he is quiet and patient. I know I drove him crazy in that car. I can never tell, he taught me so much. I can’t thank him enough. I miss his strong southern drawl. Thank you grandpa!

Another great factor. We never had to go to the mechanics! Ever since, I have stuck with my beloved Toyota and will remain loyal! I don’t care what anyone says, it’s the best car brand. No issues ever!
Just want to give you a little personal history on my passions for cars. From the design (especially the design) and the features, cars are a girl’s best friend. That is why cars have been the bulk of my marketing project topics. I have an express interest in cars; I admire them almost every day. I believe they are rolling extensions of personalities. So, onto some marketing. Car manufacturers know, cars are a basic necessity. As humans, we need transportation. No longer horses and buggies. In conjunction with needs, manufacturers get into your psychology. They will push sleeker design (for those who like to roll around with style and appeal). They will shout “can fit up to 6 safely” for those with expanding families. “We expanded the back so you can fit more in your truck” for those who are road warriors and ground craftsmen.
Auto companies know the game very well. They are the very best at marketing and with a kazillion different companies, it’s no surprise. They tailor to your income, needs, lifestyle, region, age, gender and interests. So when shopping around for a car, have these factors figured out. In relations, you want to choose a car with best fuel efficiency, rating, mileage (if opting for used) reliability, warranty, and features. In a future article, I will go over some tips on how to pick out a car! So watch out new road warriors, I want your first purchase to be clutch!
For now, I want to get into some goodies for your car. I want to present some general car tips that will have you traveling more smoothly this year. Say it with me, let’s save on gas, wear and tear and save for the future.
Check Your Tires Everyday
Hey, I get it. We are juggling a bagel in our mouth and a bag on our arm before dreading the morning traffic. You have a lot on your mind but before you start the ignition, inspect the outside of your car. Especially your tires!
Set your eyes on them during the summer where they are prone to deteriorating. Why? Heat. As you can imagine, heat isn’t rubbers best friend. In combination with the heat from the pavement, this causes the air inside the tire to expand. Causing wear and tear on your tire. This can cause your tire to deflate or blowout. Heat (primarily excessive heat) can also cause your tread to weaken. I don’t want an accident to happen so please, check your tires.
Know your car manual specifications inside and out. Know your tires proper pressure specifications. If your tires seem a little low, fill up on air immediately. I don’t want a road incident to happen. Take it to the nearest gas station and fill up on air. If you have a later model, your car may have a gauge included. Some gas stations have tire gauges (nifty additions to make sure your tires are properly inflated). This often comes with a fee. Don’t be discouraged! Right next to them are the regular free air gauges. So, before you panic and hit the one with tire pressure check, look for the Free air gauge.
It is especially important to check them during long drives. Especially as you are driving over different road surfaces. This often comes with different ailments (nails, debris, cracks, rocks, glass) that are detrimental to your tires.
If you ever feel that your car is feeling a little too warm or unstable, pull over and let it rest. Especially if you’re driving in the heat. You don’t want to over exhaust your car. Know where gas stations, eateries or rest stops are located.
Also, never drive when you’re tired. You want to be alert at all times. We want to promote safe travels. We want to keep your health and your insurance happy!

Check your Tires Tread
This is a biggie and please don’t overlook. Your tires tread is it’s lifeblood. It makes the difference in your driving. Your treads are designed to grip to the road and handle different driving conditions. So what is the tread? It is the raised rubber patterns on your tire. They are more than a pretty design. They are designed to make your drive on the road more safe and efficient! If you see them become worn or deteriorate, it’s time to change them! How can you tell, the penny test. For our Penny Hardway fans (raise hand real high), you can think of the legendary basketball legend as a reminder.
Penny Test For Tire Tread
You would place President Lincoln’s head upside down into your tread. If you can’t see his head, they are good. This means the depth is long enough and haven’t worn down. If you can see his head, then your tread has worn down. Time to replace your tires. recommend checking different areas of each tire.

Say It With Me, Warranty Is Your Best Friend
My recommendation is to have a warranty for tires. Firestone has an amazing warranty program. So if you have to get them replaced it won’t break the bank.
Story time. This was the case with me. I am a longstanding member of Firestone. I get almost all my work with them. I take advantage of their promotions and rewards card. I was able to replace my tire (blown out because of wear and tear) for about $50.00. You heard it right, $50.00. Yes, yes, it included the cost of tire, labor and taxes. I was looking for $250 bill but I had a warranty on it. The rep was so accommodating and told me with warranty, it’s $50.00. Can’t beat this! So, look into this with your auto mechanic of choice! Be prepared ahead of time. Find out what deals and specials you can get. Also a store card (make sure credit score is in top shape)! You never know what can happen with your tires, especially with so many hidden elements on the roads. I don’t want you to get into an hiccup so find out. Store the information in a safe and accessible place. Get a discount or warranty for future. Have emergency funds set aside for your car so if something does happen, you’re prepared. Also, know where your mechanics are located and ask the duration of the process. You never know if they will ask for you to leave it overnight. You want to have an alternative route home (uber or ask a friend to pick you up). This is the case if the auto mechanic doesn’t provide a service to drop you off at home. Plan, plan, plan ahead and will save you some time.
Also, can’t forget about the spare tire. Usually, this good old friend is stationed in your car. If you haven’t reviewed your car manual, give it a glance during some downtime. Learn how to put one on. If you’re not up to it, have your insurance give you a whirl. A bonus. If you ever run out of gas, they will come to your rescue. Program your insurance company in your phone and have that decal handy on the front of your windshield. Your road travels should go without a hitch!
Know Before You Pump And Save On Your Gas
No matter your financial circumstance, we all like to save a penny. With gas prices no longer at the highly coveted $2.00 below (I remember $1.10, the days), we have to be penny pinchers and resourceful.
Just a little economics, gas prices affect everything, why? Transportation. Everything we purchase generally involves transportation costs. With transportation costs being higher, this causes a cyclical effect on things we buy, making things higher. Higher costs pass on making higher costs for the things we buy. Don’t want to go there with taxes. So, with these issues in effect, we have to be more resourceful than ever. How?
Combining your shopping trips is a big one. Plan, plan, and plan. I can’t stress this enough. It can save you a lot of money. Have to drop something off in the mail and pick up tonight’s dinner, plan a trip together. Go to the destination furthest away and work your way back. Hit the highway if you can. Why? You’re avoiding the stop and going at traffic lights. Every time you stop at the traffic light, you’re wasting gas. Once you apply the brakes to stop then stay idle then accelerate, you’re burning up gas. If you relate to hitting it on the highway (where you don’t have the frequent stop and go) you are conserving more gas. Well, it there is no traffic then it is a go.
Also, go at the limit. The speed limit isn’t just for safety, recommended for best flow of traffic but also for gas conservation. I know, we are all in a rush but please slow it down. True story, there was a period where I use to like to put the pedal to the medal but not anymore. I realize I am taking a severe beating on my car and the pump. It isn’t worth it. Also, I don’t want to increase the chance of collisions. Don’t think of grandma driving, toss that out the window. Going speed or slightly above the speed limit is cool. Your car and pocket will thank you big time! Who has time to be shelling out money unnecessarily where it can be applied to emergencies or vacation. Want you to get into good habits. Just like your family, body and property, take care of your car. Having a peace of mind and being mindful of others. Safety on the road is the way to go!
These Are Your Brakes
If you ask anyone what their top concern is, it’s safe to say the brakes. This is a part you fear for the worst. They are part of our stopping and going. You ever see a kid dart out in front of the car and said, I am grateful I have good brakes. This is one part you want to monitor consistently. A good rule of thumb is to have them check annually. If you drive more frequently, I highly recommend having them check even sooner (6-8 months). What’s even better, taking advantage of the great packages auto mechanics promote. You know them, the courtesy check. They usually are conducted when you change your oil or batteries. Also, during specific mileages. If you hit 50,000 above, get high mileage oil with a free brake, battery and engine inspection. They are wonderful as I always take advantage of them. Also, before you leave your mechanics, they usually tell you when you should have your next service. Even if you had them recently inspected, have your mechanic check your brakes and brake pads. Ask them if they are getting a little worn or what’s a good estimated time they should be replaced. You can ask if it will come at a cost, usually it doesn’t. I want you to have reassurance on the road. We want to encourage safety for you and your family.
I want you to stay on top of some warning signs when it comes to the brakes. Squealing, squeaking, or vibrating while driving. This is a tell sign that your brakes or pads have deteriorated it. We all have to deal with the same elements. Nature, debris and rust (moisture is metal worst nightmare). With time and build up, this can cause deterioration if not taking care of. Hey, we all don’t have a natural knack for the hood. What we can is to have preventative measures that will prolong our brakes. How? Well, if you hear anyone of theses warning signs, head on over to mechanic asap. The longer you wait, the worst the problem becomes.
You also don’t want other parts of the car to be affected as well. Just like parts of your body work together, so does your car. Avoid heavy braking. If you’re heavy footed, please practice become a gentle giant. If you see traffic, slow down way beforehand. Don’t wait to come close to a car and apply your brakes, you’re doing wear and tear on your brakes. A good tip, don’t get into a habit of being a fast and aggressive driver, you’re wearing your car down and increasing the risk of accident. It’s not worth. Let’s protect your wallet and life! Also, be gentle on your brakes when you park as well. Be gentle on your brakes. Let’s have a smooth transition and one when you accelerate. Keep your tires properly inflated. Yes, your tires and brakes go hand in hand.
Make sure they are at the right levels. Have them check with a gauge for smooth driving. Also, keep your car light. More weight loaded, the more it bears on your tires. Just like your feet on your body, the more you weigh the more stress to your feet. Unload unnecessary weight when possible. Also helps save at the pump! To round up, invest in the best brake parts. You don’t want to be lazy with this part. Get the best parts, pads and have your fluids change every 2-3 years. You want your brakes to be properly lubricated with clean fluids. This will prolong the life of your brakes. One less headache and one amazing drive you have ahead!
Don’t Let Your Car Stay Idle
We all have life circumstances. Especially during Covid, when we had to stay indoors. Did we hit the roads frequently, no. We were all adjusting to remote living. Fixing up our spaces for office life. The great thing, we didn’t have to battle the daily rush hour traffic. Although this a plus, it isn’t for your car. Your car is meant to run. Just like we aren’t meant to stay sedentary but be active (rest comes at night). For one, your car’s battery. If your car is sitting for a long time, your battery isn’t getting any juice from your alternator. It will become dead. Now for anyone of us who have bought a new battery, you know how much this is an expense. Can you imagine just throwing money out the window. If you’re in a remote or a more stationary position, make it a habit to give your car a spin atleast one or 2 times a week (atleast 20 minutes). Yes, I know gas prices have been a mother and you’re trying to conserve but we have to keep our car activated. It’s meant to run and provide transportation. We have to keep fluids and life going in our car (to prevent deterioration and lubrication). Also, your tires lose pressure. The longer they sit, the more air they lose.
Go To Your Gas Station In The Morning
Yes, when you pump your gas matters. When do you ask? The morning. Yes, bright and early is the best time to hit the pump. Gas is conserved underneath the ground (where temperatures don’t fluctuate). When it hits your fuel pump (above ground), temperatures roar its ugly head. Depending on the temperature, gas either contracts or expands (which you don’t want). When does gas contract (cooler temperatures or in the morning). When does gas expand (during hotter temperatures). If your pump has been sitting for a while, primarily in the heat, it is expanding. Meaning. Gas is losing its quality as time goes by. So, if you pump in the late afternoons or evenings, you may be filling up on less gas. When you’re pumping, more air, and less gasoline is going into your tank (even though you pay a set price). Essentially, in the morning or when it’s cooler, gas is denser, therefore you get more gasoline in your tank (which is the goal)! Try to schedule your alarm a few minutes early to get to the pump in the morning. You may also avoid the long lines and busyness of later traffic!
Pump Your Gas Slowly Please, Save Your Money
Also, pump your gas slowly. Yes slowly. Trying to fill up to fast, you’re just throwing your money in the trash. Why? As your pumping gas, the gas comes into contact with pressure of the nozzle. The quicker it comes in contact, the more it vaporizes. This means you’re getting less product for what you paid. Pump slower and you will get more product. A win for your pocket and your car.
Don’t wait to fill up when the gas tank hits E

I automatically think of my grandmother. This is one thing she was admant about, never seeing the gas tank hit E. If the gas tank hit half full, it was on E to her! It was a riot traveling with her. She didn’t play about the gas. A woman of substance and responsibility, how can you not love. I want the same to apply to you. Never let the gas tank E. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have my days where it has (even with my grandmother’s words) but never again.
Besides the chance of running out of fuel and stalling on the road, you don’t want to waste your money. This can mean an unnecessary trip to the mechanics to replace your fuel pump. Why? Well, you depend on gas to run. The fuel pump is your connector to the engine, your powerhouse. Your fuel pump needs to stay cool and lubricated and that is through gas. If it’s on empty, it’s not receiving lubricating but dryness. This can cause your fuel pump to overheat. Also to work harder to move, causing wear and tear on your part. If you constantly have a habit on running on E, you’re causing deterioration to your pump. Please keep this is mind.
With your tank near E, can cause unnecessary debris to clog your fuel filter. You don’t want this sentiment flowing through your fuel system. You also don’t want it clogging your filter and inhibit the flow of gas to your engine. Also, you don’t your fuel pump to start sucking in air because of a lack of fuel in the tank. Also, your engine won’t receive the necessary lubrication and fuel to power, causing a dry out. Your engine might start shaking, stall and misfire. If this happens, pull over and call your car insurance/AAA immediately for assistance. Also, your exhaust system can become damaged which you really don’t want. Your exhaust is key as it removes harmful gases and toxins from your engine combustion chambers, the road to great fuel efficiency and power.
If you are low on gas, you have a great chance of damaging your exhaust system. As you may realize, all of these parts are quite expensive. Keep your expenses away by keeping your car fueled. You may think filling up is just to get you to point A and B. It is so much more. It keeps your parts lubricated and powered. Just like engine oil, gas is just as important. Take care and stay filled up. Set aside gas funds. Combine or reduce trips. Walk or use a two-wheel friend, the bicycle. Hey, we are getting in our daily exercising in right? You will see a big difference with these tips!
Hit The Gas Pumps On Mondays And Avoid Thursdays
Yes, I am back on economics. It’s one of my favorite subjects in school. Hello business marketing professionals. Supply and demand is at play and if you can shave off a few pennies, do so. Yes, this isn’t an episode of Price is Right, a show by the way. When it comes to Monday’s hit the pump. Well, what so special. Low demand. We get it you work. You’re not going to wait to Monday to hit the pump, you’re going to do it over the weekend. Just think of millions of people thinking the same thing. Also, people are usually out and about on the weekends. Hitting the night life, recreation, the mall, the big adventure for the weekend. Everyone is hitting the pumps on the weekend causing a spike in demand therefore prices.
Friday’s is another good day to hit the pump. People are tired and eager to get home after a hectic week, not thinking about filling up for the weekend. Why fill up today, I can wait tomorrow and Sunday. With less demand means you get a cheaper gas price. Tuesday’s also is a silent hero. Sunday is better than Saturday as stations may lower price as incentive for those preparing for the workweek (plus less demand). Sunday fundays.
Location Matter For Gas Prices
Supply and demand again. Yes, where you get your gas matters. If you’re in high population or traffic areas, you’re more than likely going to see higher prices. Less supply to keep up with high demand. If you go to a station near a shopping mall, arena, and restaurants, prices will be higher. Also, stations that are located for easy access. For example, see any stations near the highways, they are higher than those located further away (more in the interior). So, here is where economies of scale come into play. You have to be smart. You have to factor in the distance to travel (which is burning up gas) in relations to price. If it cost you more to receive cheaper gas prices, it may be more bang for your buck to hit the one near the highway. You also have to factor in wear and tear and mileage. If you’re buzzing by a gas station that in more rural/suburban area, take advantage of lower prices. It’s all about planning. Your bank account will thank you.

Pull In and Face Forward When You Park
I don’t like to boast but I am real good parker. I know how to back into any parking space without ease (and without taking up an hour to do so). Parallel parking was an eye soar for me in the beginning, but I have mastered it over the years. I have my days where you can’t help but laugh, I am human. No matter what, I always try to pull into park. Why? Reduction of accidents. We have a lot of pavement warriors with a lot on their minds. Speeding through parking lots is the beat. To combat this, I always try to pull in to the space so I can pull out with ease when leaving my destination. It eases the worries so much. I am glad I passed along this information to my grandmother. I know she was getting older and was tired of daily commute. This saved her so many headaches. Got to look out for grandma! I recommend you do the same as well. If you can back in (so you can pull out forward), do so. Ease your stress on the road and face forward when parking.
Lock Your Car While You Pump
Yes, yes, yes, you’re right next to your car when you pump. Don’t take that for granted. We are living in crazy times and someone is always watching. Always have your guard up and be on alert of your surroundings. I don’t want you to live in fear. I want you to be smart. Not everyone has a good heart. Lock your car. Protect yourself from someone jumping in and peeling away with your car. Also, from taking anything out. Keep your keys in your pocket, be aware of them all times. Always scan when you’re pumping. Also, safety as well. Not everyone is an experienced driver. Also, under the right influence. You never know if you see a car coming a little too close to you. Try to stay close to your vehicle as possible while pumping and away from oncoming traffic. Also, if backing up out of a small gas station, please check all areas before proceeding. It’s easier to have a collsion. Slowly back up, check for small children. If you have to peek you head out the window to see your entire vantage point do so.
As previously pointed out, try to park where you can pull out. This is life saver. Also, leave your phone in the car. I know, if something happens, you want to have your phone tucked on you. In this instance, you don’t want to cause static electricity or shock from touching the metal. Leave in the car (in a hidden vantage point). You don’t want to give thieves room for fuel. Also, touch something metal before pumping to avoid static shock. You also don’t want to cause a fire. You should have a safe pumping experience.
Also, know what side your pump is on. If you forget, look on your dashboard for the fuel icon (little gas can icon). There will be a little arrow either telling you right or left. If you forget, there it is. This will help you plan ahead before pulling up to the tank. Have you ever pulled in on the wrong side, what a headache, lol.
Why are gas tanks on each side of your car
Have you pondered why is your gas tank on the left and your friend’s car has a pump on the right. Well, it is a matter of preference for the manufacturer or country. Some manufacturers state if they put the gas tank on the right, it is matter of safety.
One conclusion is a matter of convience. Here is America, we drive on the right. As a matter of safety, we often conduct driving actions that cut down on time and are the safest. When it comes to hitting the gas station and driving in general, we are more susceptible to making a right. Therefore, more apt to make a right into a gas station. So, what do you think the car manufacturers are thinking? For convience, let’s put the gas tank on the right side of your car. So when you pull into the gas station, you can pull up on the pump, with your tank conveniently located on the right. A win for us all. Plus…. On to the next point.
Safety. Manufacturers will boast it is safer to have the gas tank on the right. If you have to pull over for an emergency situation, your tank is on the right. So, if you’re side swiped, the car won’t hit the fuel tank, causing an explosion. Also, if you have access your tank (being on the right), it won’t be facing oncoming traffic. Putting you in a safer situation.
In addition, matter of design. For some manufacturers, if they see that one side is more occupied than the other, than they may place the fuel tank on the other.
In America, it is a matter of ease. Having the fuel pump on the left (driver’s side) is a matter of ease. It is easier to pull your car closer to the pump.
Fun fact: Fuel tanks are never placed on the rear side of the vehicle because it cause gas to splash and car to explode. As you can imagine, the rear takes some wear and tare from driving. Have you ever gone over speed bump. Also, your backing in and parking, more suspectible to make impact with your front and rear than the sides of your car.
Don’t Park On The Grass
Depending on where you live, it may be a headache to park. Sometimes it might call for you to park on the grass. Before you do so, want you to pay attention to some words of caution. Mainly, deterioration and corrosion of both your grass and car. If you park on the grass, moisture from the grass may seep into your car. This can cause for rust and furthermore deterioration of your car. Also, can cause the metal to deteriorate and issues with your electrical steering.
Your tire pressure can also diminish, so check your air more frequently. On the flip side, parking on the grass can weaken your grass. Emissions from running your car (gas and oil) can spread onto your lawn, therefore hurting it. Also, with your car smothering your grass, it can weaken the grass as it not getting natural sunlight or rain for growth. Also the weight and toxins from the car can cause the soil to weaken. Your grass needs air to breathe and natural moisture content to absorb vital nutrients for lush grass.
With your car on the grass, it can cause your grass blades to weaken and soil to become stagnant. Causing a patch to form. Not a good look seeing tire marks or a box to form on your grass. If possible, see if you can get a parking permit from your town that will allow you to park on the street (If a driveway isn’t an option). Protect your grass from erosion. Keep it healthy and alive. You want to prevent erosion and diseases from forming on your lawn. Your grass and car will thank you!
Keep Your Car Clean
We are often proud of our prized possessions. There is nothing more than having a clean car. Need to impress a hot date, here is your start!
If you can, try to keep your car washed! Want to uphold the sheen and your paint’s natural shine. I know you don’t want to have to spend your money to have it recoated. Talking about an unnecessary expense. When you’re rolling your baby down the road, dirt maneuvers it way on to it. We want to keep those annoying scratches away from our paint. Also, bird poop, bugs and tree sap can detriment your car finish if not removed. If it builds up, it can cause your paint to chip and deteriorate. Something we don’t want.
To curb this, keep your car washed as frequently as possible. Grab some car wash (Walmart has some great choices)! Try to grab some with wax included, get our shine on. Grab a big sponge off of AliExpress, grab a bucket and get the scrubbing. Also, I know you see them on almost every corner, especially near your gas station. Stop by a car wash. Before you know it you may have a freshly washed car in under 20 minutes. If they come with a vacuum as part of the service, take advantage! This is never more important in the winter months. You know about the road salt from snowstorms. If compounded under your car, it can eat away at your car and cause rust to form. Have your car washed to get rid of these minerals from your car.

Let’s Get Into The Interior
Also, we can’t forget the interior of your car. We want to uphold your car’s interior quality. With good old sun beaming down into your car, this causes dust to form. Also, when your transporting shopping bags, materials, your kids (good luck with French fries), pets and other elements, things can get messy. Primarily if you let things build up. Just like the exterior, you don’t want rust to form or dark marks to form in your car. So before you clean your car, start with a fresh vacuum. Why? You don’t want to start scrubbing away on dirt, that will just push into your interior.
Vacuum first and then scrub. They have some nifty portable car vacuums (battery operated) on Amazon. Get one with parts that can get into those narrow side grooves. Pick one up for a pretty buck. Look out for some during Black Friday, what I did! A great car cleaner, vinegar, a drop of dawn and water. Grab a cup of vinegar, add two parts water and few squirts of dawn and gently scrub with a microfiber. Can lightly rinse with water and air dry. Let me tell you, your car will be smelling like Heaven! Also, will be freshly sanitized and clean to perfection. If you’re anal like me, after I let air dry I will lightly spray with alcohol. It’s isn’t necessary but if you want an added measure for sanitization, spritz! Want to keep your car clean and healthy for yourself and your family. You will also feel better in a clean car.
Psychologically, cleanliness helps you feel better about yourself. You’re maintaining good hygiene and prolonging longevity. For extra measures, keep a spray bottle of alcohol and sanitizer in your car. Why? When you are traveling in a car, you’re coming into contact with germs. You can’t access a sink in your car and you don’t want to transfer germs into your car. If you want to grab a quick bite to eat in your car and can’t wash your hands, you will have these items at hand. Keeping your hands clean. A win.
Can’t forget your trunk. We place our groceries and other necessities. Show a little TLC as well! You’re more than likely transferring germs in and out. Keep your trunk just as sanitized as your car. Use the vacuum, same cleaner and get to scrubbing. If you have an old blanket or large cloth, put it down. This will help protect your trunk’s interior. Ever picked up some mulch or grass seed from Lowe’s. You know it can get messy. Protect your trunk with a cloth. It will prevent any dirt, grime and germs working their way into your trunk’s fabric.
Snack Time For Your Or The Rodents
Another key factor in keeping the crumbs away is rodents. Just like you have to keep your kitchen clean and garbage cans tight, the same applies to your cars. I automatically think of my grandmother on this. She would always say rodents can smell miles and miles away. She didn’t play, that registered nurse shows out. You want to keep the rodents away from your cars. You don’t want them festering and maneuvering their way into your car. You don’t want them chewing your wires, upholstery or becoming stuck in your pipes. A costly bill that we don’t want. The biggie, you don’t want them living in your car. You ever run into a nest, you know not to mess with the mother.
If you eat or have your kids snacking in your car, grab the vacuum. Get ahold of a car vacuum that have parts that can fit into small crevices. You want to hit every nook and cranny. Keeping the crumbs and debris out protects the finish of your upholstery and your car. It also keeps it sanitized. You can grab a cute one off Amazon. Grab the portable (battery operated) with good suction power. You can get one for a good penny. You can also get a small wisp broom and pan (Dollar Tree). Keep the crumbs and food out. Try not to leave food in your car. If you do, make sure it’s sealed tight. You want to keep them fresh as an added bonus. Then after you vacuum or sweep out, wipe down with a good vinegar, one drop of dish detergent (blue Dawn or generic equivalent) and equal parts water. Roll down your windows (air out). Your car will smell so amazing. Trying to put a smile on your face.
Have A Hand At Your Windshield Wiper Blades
The good old wipers. Sometimes you mistake them for the turn signal. Just like the rest of your car, you want to keep on top of. You usually have to replace your wipers every 6 months. Yup, every 6 months. If temperatures and weather have become unstable, may have to replace a little sooner. A good idea to keep your blades going, give them a wipe down. Keep them clean. Gently remove them from the windshield, then use a microfiber to wipe.
During the Winter, make sure to be careful around your blades. You don’t want to damage them. Never use a snow brush or scraper on them. Use a deicer and follow instructions to a T. You want to prevent damage. In the Winter, opt for blades for snow and ice. They will be sturdy enough to remove these elements without damaging your blades. This will make a whirl a difference. Also, snow tires are a bliss, enjoy the extra support of the tread on the roads. If you notice squeaking, squealing or your rubber coming off, replace your blades. You don’t want the metal scraping against your shield. Scratches and damage beware. Replace them asap. You can snap these bad boys on yourself. Pick some up at Wal-Mart, Auto-Zone or any retailer. Know the type and size for your model of your car. You should be good to go. Will have future article on how to install your own blades.
Keep Your Windshield Clean
Let’s face it, we depend on our windshield to drive. Have you ever rolled down the highway and afterwards see your car’s windshield filled with dirt. Combined with the sun glare, this can cause things to get quite blurry. Time to use the windshield wiper fluid. If you’re like me, I can’t stand using my fluid up. If I don’t have to replace it, why use! One thing we won’t win at is nature. What we can do is make sure we keep on top of it. Both outside and inside. One thing you want to keep on top of is your windshield. You want to have a clear view at all times. It’s a matter of safety. If you whiz by a gas station, take advantage of the squeegees nearby. Use long strokes and wipe across your windshield. If you see paper towels nearby, use long strokes and wipe up any access. Don’t forget to clean your back windshields, side views, drivers side and passenger windows. Hit all your windows. Make sure they are clean and free of dirt. It will keep your car in upstanding condition. If you have some windex, use long strokes back and forth to keep it clean. For us naturalist, vinegar and alcohol is a great window cleaner. Mix a cup with equal parts water, use a microfiber and have streak free windows. Roll down your windows so you can see the rims and clean those as well. You want to keep it from dirt and grime. Cleanliness is your friend. With automatic windows, you don’t want to push dirt into the crevices of your car interior when you roll the window up. You want to make sure all dirt is removed.
You also want to keep condensation from building up on your windshield, especially inside. You don’t want to have a clouded windshield. A tip, keep a couple of microfiber cloths inside your car. Why a couple. You want one to use product and one to make sure your window is dry. If you see condesation in your car interior windshield, wipe it down. Also on all your windows. If need to up the anty, use some glass cleaner (some recommendations were mentioned in previously). Wipe down in long strokes and you should be good to go. Make sure your windows are completely dry (with your dry microfiber towel). You want to keep your windows clear from condesation and from fog forming. If you see fog forming, turning on defroster (in the cold) and air conditioner (in the heat). This will help to keep your windows clear. One rule you want to have is clear windows. Never drive if you can’t see. I know, it’s tempting when you have to be at work by 8 and dealing with the morning rush. With every trip, you should always plan for extra time, especially preping for your car. Make sure your tires are check, you have all your essentials and your windows are clear. A win for an amazing trip!

Never Drive On The Highway With Your Windows Down
I get it, some of us hate air conditioners. You like the good old fashion breeze. No one loves this more than your pets. We all see our furry ones with their heads out the windows. Your pets are more global travelers than we are, lol. What we want to steer from is having your windows down on the highway. You don’t want to mess up the alignment from air whipping into your vehicle. Especially when you’re driving at higher speeds. Also, safety. You don’t want debris, rocks, sticks or other ailments flying into your car. Not good at all. You also want to keep your pets and kids safe. We have those auto locks for them, use them. So, keep your car maintained. If your air conditioner isn’t working, have it fixed (when possible). You don’t want to cause further issues with your car. You don’t want it to overheat or cause other issues in your car.
Check Your Lights
Flashing lights are everywhere so make sure your lights are on! They are important indicators especially for our night owls! It’s easy to forget to make sure they are working. In life, sometimes things go. That includes our lights. We have all seen cars with either left, right or both being out. A good old flash of your lights can let that person know, I need to check my lights. Don’t be that person. Sometimes you can use the good old test. Face your car against a building and use as a mirror to check to see if your lights are working. You can do the same for your brakes. You can ask a loved one or a friend to see as well. If you do regular maintenance of your car (oil change or battery), can ask your mechanic for a courtesy check. Firestone and others generally have the good old check list. Ask and see if your lights are in good order. Can ask, will my lights need to be changed soon. As well as your battery and brakes. We want to keep these critical items in great standing.
If Brakes Stop Working Don’t Panic
With a car, the most important item is your brakes. Next to the engine your brakes are pinnacle. We all hear the commercials, come on down, we are having a great deal on brakes. You hear a screech, we will fix it for you. One thing with anything is never to have fear but preparedness. With your brakes, I want you to have just that. We never know where there will be a time where things may go unplanned. If you ever lose your brakes, please don’t panic. Remain calm and focused. First, be aware of your surroundings which may include fellow surrounding cars. I know you care about others and don’t want an accident to happen.
Preserve Your Battery By Keeping Things Shut
Your car battery is the lifeline of your car. Besides changing the oil you often have to change your battery. To preserve your battery, make sure your doors are completely shut. Often when you try to lock your car (automatically) you will hear a beep, indicated either one or more doors may be open. It is easy to overlook but even slightly closed can drain your battery something terrible. Pay attention to the sign and especially on your dashboard. You often see a red flashing indicator indicating your door is open. Don’t ignore and immediately shut. If you are on the street or highway, safely pull over to the side and close it. You don’t want any unnecessary air coming in and your battery draining. Worse yet, your door flying wide open, possibly causing a collision. Also, when you leave your car, always have a habit in looking back and examining your doors and tires. Make sure they are shut and everything is ok. It takes only a minute to inspect. Don’t forget your trunk as well. Make sure everything is shut. It easy for the trunk, especially if you go to purchase gas. It is easy to pull the trunk lever when you meant the gas. Don’t pull off without checking your doors, tires and trunk. Give your car a glance over.
Also, before pulling off, check to see if you have your phone and belongings. It is easy to lay these items down and forget where you place them. Especially when you have a kazillion things on your mind, it is easy to lose track. Also, make sure your side view and rear-view mirrors are properly aligned. Where you can completely see traffic from your vantage point. If more than one person occupies the car, please check. We all are shaped differently and at different heights, adjusting the seats is the norm. Check to see if you are comfortable and everything is at the right alignment before hitting the road. Getting into these habits will put you at ease.
Also, your car may automatically put on your headlights or daylights (how can you not love modern technology). If your car doesn’t and you have to manually turn on your lights, please make sure they are. If your car doesn’t come with an indicator, make it a habit to check. Lights are a battery best friend, a friend to drain. Make sure the lights are in the off direction. Look at your headlight indicator to make sure your switch is on the off position. It is easy to think they are turned off but you have to remember you have different settings. This includes high beams, headlights and off position. It is easy to think you turn off your headlights but they may be fixed on the high beam or headlight position inadvertently. That is why I recommend looking verbatim, even if you have them automatically. They are a lifesaver for your battery and your bulbs in your headlights. We don’t want to have to run on Amazon or to the mechanic to replace so, preserve and check! You will have amazing trips.
Grab Some Portable Jumper Cables
Besides knowing how to pump your gas, these are the basic essentials you want to pick up about your car in your off-time. Change your oil, change your tire, windshield wipers and fluid and jumpstart your battery. Why? Save some money. Here, it will be cool to have a set of jumper cables in your car or a portable charger. I can’t stress Amazon enough. They always have amazing deals so, pick up some today! Black Friday and Cyber Monday are your friends. I know, we all have car insurance with convenient services, especially for jumping the battery. Know all the perks from your car insurance. Have their number stored in your phone, glove department and on the lower corner (on the right) of your car’s windshield.
Know The Details Of Your Car Inside And Out
Yes, once we get our new car, we are handed a key, a bunch of paperwork and the car manual. I know, it’s a lot of pages but pages you should know. Your manual is your friend and quite exciting to read. Get to know your car, where everything is located. What type of gas, oil, tires, power level, I mean everything. You want to know where your gas latch is, how to pop your hood, how to turn on emergency flashers, the essentials. If you don’t know, set aside some free time. It will make a whirl of a difference, especially during an emergency situation. So when services arrive, they aren’t fishing around on how to operate anything. It will save both you and the representatives a lot of time.
A big one, if something goes in your car, an alternative. For example, if you notice that your auto locks aren’t working, will you be able to enter your car manually? You also want to know in case of emergencies. Some of our parts run on battery so it is essential to know alternatives. If you ever notice your car keys become unstable, it may be time to change the batteries. You can pick up the exact duplicates on AliExpress or even at your car dealer. Keep spare batteries on hand. Do you have spare keys. I recommend having atleast two spare keys. Both kept in secure and accessible locations.
Notice Your Horn Going, Get It Checked Out
Your horn is your communication tool. It’s a means of letting others know of possible dangers or courtesy. You ever see a kid ready to dart out in front of your car, your horn will act as a life saver. Letting them know not to. Have you ever seen someone with a flat tire or door partially opened. A nice courtesy can prevent the next accident. If you notice your horn going or gone, it can be a faulty wire or fuse gone bad. Just like with other parts, your horn can accumalte debris, grime and and oil. With build up comes corrosions. If you notice any difference, it may time to change some connectors, wires or fuses. Before doing it yourself (if you’re comfortable working on cars by all means fix your horn) have a mechanic work on it. Reason, you don’t want to mess around and deploy your airbag. This can be a dangerous situation, we want to encourage protection. Plus you’re dealing with electricity, you don’t want to experience shock or interference with other parts of your car.
Snug Your Steering Wheel With A Cover
If you have sensitive hands (like myself) invest in a nice steering wheel cover. I picked mine up for Wal-Mart for under $12. What you will need to know is the diameter of your steering wheel. It’s either your car manual or you can measure. Then head into Wal-Mart, Target, Burlington or Auto care place. Pick up a steering wheel cover of your liking. There are many cool designs, why not add a splash of decor to your whip! If you’re really into it, can try to get a custom one online. I know my fellow comic fans probably have their faves all over their steering wheels.
I highly recommend picking one that is comfortable. Mine is made out of the softest foam cushion and has made a world of difference when driving. My hands don’t cramp up and feel so relaxed when I am driving. Be on the lookout for the hard plastic one. They may be a nightmare when the sun hits. You don’t ever want to drive with a steering wheel that isn’t safe too touch. The soft cushion one I purchase is easy to clean. All I have to do is take it off, add a few squirts of blue Dawn with vinegar, do a gentle scrub and rinse. Hang to air dry and now have a nice, sanitize steering wheel. The cover also protects the finish of your steering wheel. Pick one or two up. Wait for deals and you will see a big difference in your driving.
Car Mats Matter
Your car mats are your best friend. They not act as your car rug but protection. They help protect from the rough elements of driving. Let’s face it, we all have to walk on the ground, sometimes transporting snow, ice, water and dirt on our shoes. Our mats protect our car interior floor from quickly deteriorating. Also, when we place bags, materials and other elements in our car, it will also protect from wear and tear. Make sure your mats are properly positioned in your car. Not able to move, providing secure coverage. You don’t want your mats slipping, especially your mat in your driver’s seat. The last thing you want is your mat curling up under your brakes or gas pedals. A recipe for disaster. So check to make sure they are securely positioned in your car. Especially after cleaning them. Also, make sure they stay vacuumed or cleaned. You can get a small whisp broom (Dollar Tree) to keep the debris out of them. A good shaking against a tree or hang them air dry on your line, will keep them fresh. Also, make sure underneath your mat is thoroughly clean and dry. As previously mentioned, want to keep germs at bay. Especially no mold or mildew. You can spritz some alcohol on them (after cleaning). Help to keep them sanitized.
If you notice your mats becoming a little worn, pick up another set. You want to protect your car. You can either purchase some from your car dealer, auto care place, Ali-Express, Target, Burlington or Wal-Mart. Yes, Wal-Mart strikes again as I had to replace my mats. What I did customize the mats. I cut out small slits to fit my car mat placement. They have been staying strong and secure ever since. Saving some money, a big win!
Keep These Items In Your Car
If you are like me, I like a clean and clutter free car. Although this may be the case, there are some items you will be happy to have stashed. With out further adieu.
- Shovels in trunk
- Bandaid-spray bottle of alchol
- Blanket, pillows, light sheet
- Extra pair of clothes, shoes, toiletries (toothpaste, deodarant, soap, wash cloths, toothbrush)
- Mirror
- Papertowels/napkins
- Plastic forks,spoons,knives, cups
- Portable car batteries (phone)
- Disinfectant spray/hand sanitizer
- Pens,notepad
- Manual can opener, bottle of water
- Microfiber cloths
- Long handled Snow scraper
- Push broom
You never know if you will run into emergency situation (stranded, accident) or become sick/tired. Atleast you can be prepared. Hygiene is big and so, having these items at tow will keep your sanity at bay. If you run into emergency and have to stay at a hotel/or relatives unexpectly, you’re prepared. Primarily if you’re far away from home. I know what you’re thinking, what the heck is a can opener doing in here. Well, if you need to eat something and don’t want to hit an establishment, you can pop open a can. Survival of the fittest. Can save on your wallet. They are cheap and can pick one up at the Dollar Tree. They can also be used for other things as well.
For the winter, pop a shovel, push broom and long handled snow scraper in your car. Keep the scraper in your car, laid on top of cloth or plastic (protect your interior). You want to keep scraper in the car so it will be easier to clear of the snow your car. You don’t want pop in your trunk. Why? If you’re trunk is frozen or snow is piled on top of it, you’re out of luck. Having it in the car, your’e more susceptible to cleaning off your car. Also, if it snows again (wherever you’re traveling), you will have ease of access to remove the snow. A bonus, pack a de-icer or some salt/sand. We want to prevent any slipping. Especially for my senior friends, want to keep you healthy, safe and happy!
When life is a freeze, hopefully not your doors!

Good old winter. You love the scenery until you have to drive in it. Nothing beats a workout from lifting our flurry friends but whats even better, worrying about ice and getting a cold. Yes, we have to commute in the winter and this also means extra prep. From snow tires (watch those treads work on the road, a grip we all adore) to driving way below the speed limit, driving in the winter is an event. Even if you’re seasoned driver, there is always room for improvement and to better prepare. I want your drive in the winter to live like a dream and what better way than a nice handy lst to prep. I highly recommend booting up a document (labeling it Winter driving Prep).
Therefore have a nice, organized list you can go over. I want to prolong the life of your car and save you money. Especially a trip to the mechanics. With proper prep, it will go smoothly. You may also have to prep yourself to adore getting up earlier. If you dread it, you will be more susceptible to wake up late. It’s a psychological trick. I get it, we are all trying to get to work or school on time. That often means fighting the usual morning traffic, the dread 😦 To prep, think positive. You will be less stressed and more disciplined (setting forth good habits) by getting in the habit of waking up early. Give yourself a reward. Perhaps an extra hour of sleep on the weekends or a date to with your favorite treat. Who can resist a sugar cone with your favorite ice cream, let’s not neglect the whip cream! Also, you will be in good standing with your employer and school (maybe a promotion is lined up for you, I hope)! Getting up 15 minutes to an hour early in the Winter will do you wonders. It will give you more time to prep for the morning commute.
You have to account for cleaning off your car windows and especially, the top of your car and trunk. No matter the inches, please clean off these areas. We want to protect your fellow cars, no snow blankets flying on to their windshields. I highly recommend investing in a long handle push broom or brush to get up there. A big tip here. Clean off your car first before you shovel. I know, why would you have me clean off your car first before you shovel. Why are you having me tread through the snow first, I don’t want to slip and fall. Well, if you want to do double work, by all means do so. I know you heard the stories of people having heart attacks from shoveling. I don’t want you to be that person.
I can account for this. My grandmother would always get on me for shoveling. She sat at the window like a hawk, timing everything. It didn’t matter what time; she was already worried. I can just step out the door and she was already yelling at me to be careful, don’t stay out there too long. LoL. It’s just the registered nurse in her. There is nothing like a grandmother’s love. She was right, you don’t want to put too much strain on your body. Especially being out in cold weather lifting heavy. Yes, I lift heavy in the gym but it’s different when you’re dealing with nature. You have to take breaks, me, I hate breaks. After a good old talking with my grandmother, I learn to take breaks when shoveling. I want you to do so. If you have elderly neighbors or neighbors with health issues, pitch in to help them. This was my thing. I automatically went out there to assist, even before shoveling my property. Everytime I ran into my neighbors, they would thank me profusely. I always said no worries. It’s just in my nature to help. Doesn’t hurt to burn a few extra calories.

So back to shoveling, as previously mentioned, clean off your car first. The night before the big storm, try to move your car more to either the right or left side. If you move it towards the right, push the snow off in that direction onto the grass. Therefore you won’t have any snow from the car in your driveway. Also, you will only have to shovel just the left side. If you park on the opposite do the same. This will save you time and double work. When shoveling, always bend your knees when lifting.
Don’t forget to make a path when you shovel. Make sure your steps, porch, walkway and sidewalks are shoveled. Don’t shovel a narrow path but wide, why? You want to have clear walkways. If narrow, the snow still left on your path will be more susceptible to melt on your areas, causing an ice patch. Also, you can cause slush and flooding on your sidewalks. Your sidewalks doesn’t have more room to stay dry. You don’t want your sidewalks to upheave from standing water. With a broader and clearer path, your areas will be more susceptible to stay dry and not ice up (from receding snow drifts). I know, we have to deal with snowplows coming by, erasing all our hard work. Still, you want to keep a broad path. The name of the game is to protect you and others from falls. We all have to go out and still live (even during the snow). When you shovel, make the broadest paths possible. You will also have to put down less salt, sand or deicer on your areas. We want to conserve.
A handy tip. Invest in some big buckets/lids and keep on top of sales (for your salts, sand, or deicers). We all know how hard it is to get when a big storm hits. Everyone is thinking the same thing, got to get the salt. If you keep some on stock (perhaps in your garage, basement or porch) you will be ahead of the game. Just have to account for it freezing. A tip, store it in your house before snow fall. Basement or back hall area is great. This will help beat the freeze. So you may ask, which is better to get salt or sand.
The answer, it depends. Both salt and sand work wonders for the Winter but also have drawbacks. It Is a matter of preference. So let’s get into the good and bad of both. Let’s start with salt.
Salt Or Sand to Remove Snow and Ice
If you’ve ever been on a diet, you know salt can mess with water levels in your body. We generally take it out so our body doesn’t hold onto more water. You ever battle the scale, you know. Salt is also a hero in winter. It’s better at melting ice than sand. Why? It effectively lowers the freezing point of ice therefore preventing ice from forming. Not too shabby. It also melts ice, even if it already has form in comparison to sand (which doesn’t melt ice). You see snowplows rolling by spreading road salt all over the road. The name of to the game is to melt the ice and keep you safe. That is why salt is the choice, it melts. It’s also comes with grit, increasing traction on your surface areas and roads. Giving you the grip to avoid the slip. Salt coming in with the knockout punch but hold on, we have to account for the other side. Salt also has it drawbacks. I know, why can’t live be without drawbacks. Salt also is corrosive, especially in contact with concrete and paving stone. Ever see those cracks in the road, the wear of Winter. Plants and grass beware. Salt isn’t your friend for these areas. If mix with water, can cause a killer mixture. If seeped into these areas, can kill your beautiful plants and lawn. I know, you just can’t win. Before you panick, let’s get into the other alternative, Sand.
Sand, it’s more than the beach it can be your best friend, especially for your lawn and plants. Talk about grit and grip, and safer alternative for your concrete. We don’t want to repave. Sand is very safe for you concrete surface and plants, non toxic. It’s non-corrosive, has a long durability (even after ice has formed) and doesn’t kill your livestock (your plants and lawn will thank you). The drawbacks, sand is messy. You ever come in after you shovel, you seen the footprints all over door mat, let alone your car floor mats. If you’ve been reading you know the drill, get to cleaning them. Even in the Winter. We want to prevent corrosion and damage in your car. Sand also doesn’t melt ice and if used in excess can cause clogs. We don’t want this to happen. Floods draw mildew, andmold and a big plumbing bill. You ever try to get a serviceperson in the Winter, yikes. As in life, do everything in moderation. This includes usage for sand.
My recommendation, use both. The better and broader you shovel, the less you have to worry about using salt or sand. Unfortunately, you can’t beat mother nature. There is always the chance of ice. If occur, salt. Salt does the melting as sand doesn’t. You just have to weary of the surfaces. Salt isn’t friendly on the concrete. Also, don’t use too much salt. You are just wasting your money. If you see excess salt left after the ice/snow has melted, you have use too much. The standard, about 12 ounces. That should be enough for the standard driveway. Also make sure you have a spreader when distribute. Why? You want to make sure you get adequate coverage, having it clumped up in one area does no justice. I picked up a large one with a pick on AliExpress. Forgot the price but it was a steal. It has made a big difference during the winter. It comes with the handy measuring tools to prevent using too much. Rack up one today. AliExpress generally has a steal on all their items. Amazon is also a good look as well. Also, don’t leave any excess salt on the ground. Sweep up and toss in garbage. You don’t want to pollute your lawn, plants or water supply. Let’s remain toxic free.
In addition, salt needs heat. Be weary when you put it down. If the surface is extremely cold, you it is no justice. Salt needs to work with sun and warm surfaces, that’s where the magic happens. So before you spread, make sure the sun is out and on warm temperatures. I don’t want you to become frustrated if you don’t see any difference. Salt needs the sun and warmth to activate, also friction from movement. Especially from cars. It’s receiving friction and heat, activating. Every time you see cars roll by, they are creating heat.
With salt, you have to careful of corrosion of you car, especially underneath. Every time you roll over them, build up can come underneath. Even with sand. Even in the winter, have your car wash. We want to remove the salt and sand from your exterior. The key, go to a professional. You want your car to be washed in warm temperatures; you don’t want freezing damage to your vehicle. The key, wash in warm and not hot water. Use special soaps for winter. If you wash at home, make sure you wash above freezing temperatures. Never ever wash at freezing or below. You don’t want anything icing up on your car. A nightmare. You can opt to have an underbody wash or a full wash, salt can get on the hood as well. If you’ve ever been on the highway and a truck roll by, you know.
What you can do, is use salt for the melting (be weary of the surface ) After melting, use sand for traction. It’s messy but safer. Use sand around your plants and lawn and on surfaces (not conducive for salt). You should be good.
There are other deicers on the market. Just read the fine lines and go with what is comfortable to you. If you want to stick to salt and sand, just giving you the difference. Before you head to Lowe’s, have an idea of what to get. Hopefully you get a good deal, check out to see if there is a bulk sale going on. Stock up and save!
If using a snowblower, please make sure this is prep before the start of winter. Just like the lawnmower, fresh gas, oil and tuned up for the winter. Also, give a run during the off seasons, this will keep the motor going. Have some downtime in summer, fire it up. Check it out so you will good and ready for the Winter. Also, keep your exit chute lubricated. Why? You don’t want snow sticking to this part and your blades. You ever try to start up a snowblower with ice formed on it, yikes. WD-40 has a nice silicone lubricant to keep your chute free from snow sticking. This will help to preserve the longevity of your blower’s engine. If you’re using a snowblower make sure you have enough snow on the ground. You don’t want to use too little (more than 1 ½ inches). You don’t want to damage your blades or your pavement. Also, you don’t want to snow blow when it’s too much. Don’t want to overwhelm or strain your blower’s engine. I will get into more tips for the Winter in a future article.
Deicer For Your Locks And Car
Yes, we all have keyless entries. However, you don’t ever want these to freezes. You always want to have multiple options for entering your car. Have some deicers on hand. All the retailers have some good ones on hand. Here is a deicer for locks (at a nice price) from Lowe’s. Lowe’s is amazing for all your home remodeling needs, an amazing store. One thing you want to avoid doing is throwing hot water on your windshield or car. It’s a big No. I know, you would think with hot water, the ice would melt faster. Yes, but have to think about your windshield. You ever pick up a glass filled with boiling hot water, yikes. We all know it is room to get burn and crack. The same applies with your windshield, the sudden temperature change on your windshield is recipe for disaster. You can cause a crack which we don’t want. We all know windshields are extremely costly so let’s avoid damage all together.
