In a tough economy, we can all use a little help. Located below are several resources that will help you on your career path. I personally used all of them and landed both of my current jobs on a few of these sites. I also provide links to shift positions/temp job sites that offer immediate positions. There are many organizations that need immediate/temporary help. If you’re in college, out of work or need extra income quickly, shift jobs are your hero! Check them out today!
FYI- With gig/shift work sites, they work on mobile apps. The links provided lead to the downloads on either iphone or android.

With JobStack/People Ready, you may receive a phone call (from the temp agency) if you select I’m Interested in the position. Make sure your ringer is on and you’re on alert.
You may also receive text alerts as well for position. If you respond yes, you may receive a call from the agency.
Make sure you pick up the phone if you see People Ready on your id. This will help you to secure the position you’re applying for. They will notify you if approved, and will direct you to the app, where you will receive your official approval.

Temp Agency/Shift Position Part-Time-Full Time Work
With this site, you have to do a little searching. I landed my retail merchandiser job with Walmart through this site. How did I come across this site. Well, it was first through working a shift at Walmart (found on Instawork). It was a retail merchandiser job. I figure, what if there are part time-full time positions available?
I did a little research on Google and came across AcostaJobs.com. I searched retail merchandising and selected my city. I read job descriptions and decided to apply! I made sure I updated my resume to include shift work beforehand. I submitted.
I sent in my resume and next day, I was hired, working in Walmart. The same can happen to you.
I was so excited! I did this on a whim. What a little smart thinking and detective work can prove. Also, I was thinking of you! Someone who needs money quickly or is a little cash strap. I never want anyone financially strapped.
To help you out, type retail merchandiser, grocery stocker (or stocker), sales or product demonstrator. Select your city or desired city to work. Have a glowing resume/cover letter going and submit! Best of luck.
Once again, I was hired 1 day later through this site. It works! Retailers need assistance around the stores, especially with anything that helps generate sales. We all been in the stores, products are all over the place. Someone needs to come in and help to make the display enticing and neat. Ready for the sale!
Job/Career Websites
This one is my personal favorite. I have nothing but love for this site. It help land 2 jobs in past 3 years. I had the most feedback from recruiters, offering interviews and postions from ZipRecruiter. It has an easy to use interface and best, 1-click apply. Now, I am all for standing out when submitting your resume. I advise having a cover letter to really stand out. Show the company you care about them. You did your research. You want to move them forward by offering your talents to the team. How can you accomplish, by marketing your achievements/accomplishments!
This is what companies want to hire. Someone who help improve sales, save money, improved processes, innovated, trained someone. With your resume, make sure you have accomplishments section shining on top. Never have a resume that shows exactly what you did. This is how you will get hired!
Indeed rounds out #2 in my eyes. I recommend having cover letters going. More senior level positions abound on Indeed. Also, they have become more social. You can network with others on the board.
Similar to Indeed, Glassdoor is more for those who are looking for upper-level management positions. SVP, SVP of marketing, CEO, Chief Diversity Officer or Chief Procurement Officer positions. Never less, if you’re not looking for these positions, it doesn’t hurt to still search. You can analyze the positions and what they are looking for. This can fuel the fire to one day fulfill these positions. We all aspire to move up the ladder. It’s not about the money but the achievement! If we stay stagnant, we will never grow. One thing you never want to happen is to grow bored. Working the same position forever is no one’s goal.
We should all aspire to grow and move ahead. Even if you don’t like managerial aspects, you still want to move upwards. You can take on more responsibilities or venture in another area. This can help you mentally and help you feel more accomplished!
Never settle for less. You are valuable! We all have strengths, gifts and talents. Never let them go to waste! It’s not keeping up with others. It’s making yourself proud! Your family, friends, and acquaintances. Seeing your kids proud of you. Maybe one day, they will aspire to be a CEO. Want to achieve success on their own.
We all know Linkedin. We have forgotten that Linkedin is meant for finding employment more than socializing. It’s ok, it should be a balance of both. I think we all forget about searching for positions part.
It’s not about having a glowing profile, professional picture and a lot of ratings. It’s all about marketing yourself for your next position. Keep connected to co-workers (references and networking). You never know if you will need a letter of recommendation or reference. You ever forget your co-workers contact info, well, you have Linkedin! Thankful, a quick connection request can make all the whirl of a difference.
Also, recruiters are always posting jobs. Ask for referrals. Send personal notes. Grow your network. We all know it is quicker to get hired through your network than your own.
For me, it has been the opposite. I landed all my jobs on my own. Well, my schools help to land my internships and first job. After that, it was all me. Applying, sending glowing resumes/cover letters and following up. I follow up to every employer. If you aren’t hired, you never know if there may be another opportunity available. This has happened to me. A position was filled and I was offered another one. They loved my resume and how persistent I was. I was someone they wanted on my team.
I want you to have the same attitude. Network, you never know what may arise from the conversation!
Monster has been interested. It use to be part of the pinacle 3. When you thought of job search, they were part of the search. Now, they seem so undercover.
Never less, give them a whirl. The goal is to have a fulfilling career. Find an employer that can satisfy your goals. One you can see yourself employed for many years. One, you match with their goals.
Not every job is listed on the same site. That is why I advise searching on them all. For instance, perhaps your goal is to get into the beauty industry. Estee Lauder is the company of choice. You go on Indeed and notice no positions listed.
You go on Monster and find 2. I know you’re happy you searched on another engine. Never limit yourself!
For my Connecticut and surrounding states, CTHires is gold! They are very faithful in updating and helping you to find a job.
With every state, the goal is to get you working. How else will they get revenue, especially that tax revenue! More people working means more economic stability for the state. They can improve schools, roads, senior living, transportation and more jobs around the state.
This leads me to next tips.
Job Search In Your State
I can’t forget, not everyone lives in Connecticut. Similar to CTHires, you can find employment in your state’s job board. Every state has one. What you can do is conduct a Google search. Search, your state followed by job board or state of “” job openings. For example, State of Georgia job board or state of California job openings.
For my Connecticut residents, I have a treat for you. Parltenred witht he sate of Connecticut, the WorkPlace helps you to find employment. Particulary, remote work. It a series of week program that helps you to get back on your feet. You go through classes, taught by the leading HR experts. They will help you with your resume, cover letter, interview prep and career advice! Also, you will receive training from Sacred Heart University. You receive a nice stiphen at the end for completing the progam. How cool is this.
I went through this program, before losing my job. I was contacted by the recruiter and instantly was hooked. They provide mentorship and advice. Help to land my job after being laid off.
They provide nothing but excellent mentorship and advice. They walk with you. Checking on you faithfully with your job search. They really want you to succeed in getting a job.
Your College/University Career Job Boards
I am such a faithful cheerleader for these sites. My motto, I worked and paid my way through school. I want a return on my investment. Part of that investment is my school’s career center. They are here, take advantage.
It’s more than helping you with your resume, cover letter, interview and internship. Post graduation, receive employment.
The school wins when you receive employment. This is the whole point. You’re going to school to have a fulfilling career. You have student loans and debt to worry about. They know you are looking for a means for survival. Also, this helps with recruitment.
What better marketing tactic than boasting about their school’s career placement. 95% of our graduate’s land jobs with the nation’s leading Fortune 1000 corporations. Wouldn’t you want to submit your application!

Employer Career Portal
Every employer has a job portal. Search your employer’s portal. Perhaps a change is needed. See what’s going on with your employment at your job. Also, you can talk to your HR department. Besides making sure you have benefits and cutting your check, they are there to help you with employment. We all went through interviews; you can sit with them if a move is necessary to make.
